Constitution

Why we care

The Constitution mandates it. Most Americans believe in it. But today it is under threat as never before.

Church-state separation stands as one of the foundations of our nation. Because of it, Americans enjoy unparalleled religious liberty and nurture one of the most vital religious communities in the world. Separation guarantees the freedom to worship or not to worship as you choose.

Today powerful religious leaders and misguided politicians have joined forces to undercut the First Amendment.

The (No) ‘Establishment’ Clause by Ronald Thomas West

There is little question the American founders were, without exception, ‘believers’ in a supreme deity or that is to say “God.” Their commonality of belief ends with that statement. The (no) ‘Establishment’ clause of the anti-federalist founders (as opposed the ‘Federalist’ founders) enshrined in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, derived from a consensus there could never be any one religion in supremacy in these United States.
