For a lifetime of courageous and victorious championing
of church and state separation
Ellery Schempp was the primary student involved in the landmark 1963 United States Supreme Court case of Abington School District v. Schempp which declared that public school-sanctioned Bible readings were unconstitutional. The Schempp case stands as a powerful bulwark against government-sponsored religion. The Supreme Court has cited it repeatedly since then. It is more important today than ever before. Click here to read the full text of Dr. Schempp's presentation.
